St Mary's Island
St. Mary's Islands, also known as Coconut Island and Thonsepar, are a set of four small islands in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Malpe in Udupi, Karnataka, India. They are known for their distinctive geological formation of columnar basaltic lava (pictured). Scientific studies indicate that the basalt of the St. Mary's Islands was formed by sub-aerial subvolcanic activity, because at that time Madagascar was attached to India. The rifting of Madagascar took place around 88 million years ago.
Sri Krishna Matha
Considered to be one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in South India, the Krishna Temple or the Udupi Sri Krishna Matha is quite a huge name associated with the worship of Lord Krishna. The fascinating idol of the Lord is adorned with jewels and a golden chariot. What makes the temple unique, is its worshipping pattern. The prayers and process of the whole worship take place only through a silver-plated window with nine holes called the Navagraha Kitiki. Several temples known as Udupi Anantheshwara Temple surround the Shree Krishna Matha. These temples trace back to 1,000 years. The Krishna Temple is always seen to be crowded with Krishna Bhakts.
Anantheshwara
It was built during the reign of the Alupas in the 8th century C.E. and is considered among the oldest in the Tulu Nadu region. In an inscription dated 1357 C.E. the temple's deity is referred to as Mahadeva of Udupi. The temple is known for its association with Hindu philosopher Madhvacharya who taught his disciples within its complex. The temple is adjacent to the more famous Udupi Sri Krishna Matha established by Madhva.
Mookambika Temple
Mookambika Temple is dedicated to Aadiprakarshakti who is believed to embody the powers of three goddesses, Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Mahakali and Maha Lakshmi. The sanctum sanctorum houses a Linga represents Purusha as well as Shakti and is called the Udbhavlinga.
Malpe Beach
Malpe is a beautiful beach town located just 6 km from the temple town of Udupi. It is a natural port and important fishing area of the Karnataka coastline. As it sits on the estuary of the Udyavara river, it is a breathtakingly beautiful picnic spot. Manipal
Well known for the Manipal university, this town is home to multiple educational institutions founded by Dr T M A Pai. It is located in the Malabar coast region with the Arabian Sea at a touching distance of 8km. Apart from the Manipal University campus, this place also houses the international headquarters of Syndicate bank and a regional IT hub. Manipal was a sleepy coastal town that was not very famous before 1950. It was once a part of the Shivalli village panchayat. However, all that changed when the town was selected by Dr Tonse Madhava Anantha Pai as the location to set up an institution for imparting medical education.
